Ayodhya Seeks Economic Gains By Welcoming Homestay Visitors

homestays in ayodhya

Expecting a huge surge of pilgrims, officials in Ayodhya devised a homestay program in August 2023 to meet demand. The Ayodhya Development Authority and local leaders established an application system for residents to have their homes approved as accredited homestays for visitors.

By satisfying certain basic criteria, homeowners will be certified to host tourists either in a separate section of their house or in the family’s living quarters itself. This plan will enable tourists to lodge with vetted local hosts through this organized homestay network.

Checklist to certify for homestay –

To be certified, homestays must meet a 14-item checklist covering basic necessities for guests such as

  • Beds with fresh linens
  • Toilet
  • CCTV security
  • Private parking
  • Newspaper service.
  • Bathrooms need to be fitted with standard amenities like buckets, mugs, water heaters, sinks, mirrors, and hair dryers.

As of now, 160 approved homestays are listed and available for booking on the Holy Ayodhya app, while a similar number have been posted independently by hosts on other online platforms. Approximately 500 local residents have submitted applications to register their homes on this system, with some requests still undergoing review.

Expected Tariff for homestays in Ayodhya

A major draw for visitors is the affordable rates typically ranging from ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 per day for double occupancy accommodations. During the busy high season, few hotels can match such inexpensive pricing, giving these homestays a competitive edge. By opening their homes at budget-friendly prices, hosts aim to attract pilgrims who previously lacked affordable lodging options when traveling to worship.
